I know… I know… this is the first week of fall but I’m still holding on to what little bit of sunshine we have left. I was thinking of how much fun we had as a family this summer on our beach trip and I thought I’d share it with you all. Let’s go back to the last week in July. We left Burlington on a Sunday afternoon and arrived to North Myrtle Beach around 6:30 pm that evening.
We had the pleasure of staying at North Beach Plantation. Our beach house was absolutely amazing. It felt like we were right at home. We had two bedrooms with two full baths, washer/dryer, kitchen with all the appliances , dining room, and a living room. The set up of the home along with the decor just made it feel so beachy ( yes I made up the word)
Monday is when the fun begin. We cooked breakfast, got everyone dressed, and we were ready to explore. Our fist stop was Alligator Adventure which is one of the largest facilities for reptile life in the world. The amount of alligators was unbelievable. I had no clue that there were so many type of alligators. Although it was an alligator farm there were way more animals than just the gators.
The Macaw birds had such beautiful colors and reminded me of the birds from the movie Rio. Macaws are typically found in the rain forest of Central and South America. They are capable of imitating human words and have the life span of up to 50 years.
The Albino Alligator was off on its own in a very shaded area. This is to protect the alligators form the sun because their skin is very sensitive to sunlight. We learned that too much sun could actually burn the alligators skin. It was mentioned that they rarely make it through adulthood because they aren’t able to camouflage themselves.
We had the opportunity to see Limas, several Tortious, and a Spotted Hyena. They did have live feeding shows, alligator and snake handling. Christian and Carter left amazed.
After being out in the sun for a few hours it was time get some ice cream and cool down. Our next stop was Sugar Life Candy and I could not BELIEVE the amount of options that they had. I think we were all in and haven we didn’t know where to begin. This ice cream shop has over 34 different flavors of ice cream and candy galore.
On Tuesday we decide to take the kids Ripley’s Believe It or Not Aquarium and honestly we didn’t enjoy our experience. The aquarium was jammed packed it was almost impossible to turn around. The boys loved all of what they were able to see but I do believe their experience would have been a lot better if the place wasn’t as crowded. Afterwards we went out to eat then back to the beach house and relaxed for the rest of the day.
Before heading back home we met with my mom and her good friend Tish at Blueberry’s Grill. The service and food was absolutely amazing. Chris had shrimp and grits, I enjoyed a burger with an added fried egg, the boys had pancakes which they made them into the shape of Mickey Mouse. We topped it off with Beignet with a nice blueberry sauce.
After eating we were on the road again. I really enjoyed myself and look forward to making this a yearly tradition. What did you all do this summer?
Until next time!
