Many places are getting colder during the month of September, ours being one of them, which can only mean one thing! Fall is here! I personally love watching the leaves change from green, to yellow and a bright deep red. I also love finding new and exciting outdoor activities for my kids to enjoy as well! Getting outside still is key so I put together some fun ideas that you can do on a weekend, in your backyard or a quick few hours!
Apple Picking
I know many of us can get our apples year round at our local grocery store but honestly, there is nothing more exciting than going to an orchard to pick up fresh apples, right off of a tree that is harvesting. It’s one thing my kids and I love to do, trying to find the best ones, and then enjoying a new apple recipe when we get home. We love the tangy, sweet apple flavor. Many orchards let you pick your own and not only is it a great way to get outdoors and enjoy the day together, but it’s a great way to show where our food comes from. I’ve recently begun canning applesauce which is perfect when I need it for making a quick apple pie later on.
Collect Fall Leave
I remember as a child finding so many fall leaves as a child ( and not just for jumping in ) but also for preserving them! My family and I like to collect them and make them into books. It’s very simple to do- I paste them into a handmade paper to create a greeting card or glue them between two pieces of wax paper. I use a warm iron to melt the shavings and it holds the paper together. This is also fun to look at the types of leaves you can find as well!
Scavenger Hunt In Your Backyard
If you have a few hours to spare, enjoy scavenger hunting right in your own backyard. There are several things on Pinterest that are already created for you to print out and try to find. You can look for wildlife collecting food, birds, various leaves, and more.
Enjoy A Bonfire
Invite some friends over in your neighborhood for a spooky bonfire complete with marshmallows, milk chocolate and of course, graham crackers. The chill in the air makes it perfect to sit near a warm fire and enjoy the last few days left before it gets too cold out.
Add In The New In Your Backyard
If your backyard is needing some new repair this fall to allow your kids to enjoy the backyard for safety purposes, consider getting a fence to help you with fall raking leaves, keeping out unwanted wildlife and enjoying privacy. Brazilian Wood Depot offers some incredible fencing opportunities for homeowners including purpleheart and Ipe. Be sure to check out composite deck boards vs brazilian hardwood for longevity, color and the best for making it look its best in your neighborhood.
Enjoy A Hayride
Many farms offer hayrides during the fall. This is a fun way to kick back, enjoy nature and relax a bit if you have smaller kids who may not be up for walking around the farm. This is also a great way to discuss and see what local farm’s offer such as hot apple cider, apple cider donuts, pumpkins and more. There are several more fun things I haven’t shared for outdoor play for the kids this fall. Some can include crunching up leaves in a bin, tracing their hands and using various colors to create tree’s and leaves, and so many more exciting and creative things. Create a fall bucket list together as a family and check off a few things as the weeks go by.
