We celebrated our summer vacay kick off in Orlando. Originally we were planning to fly but we thought it would be fun to take a road trip to Florida. The drive from North Carolina to Florida is 9 hours. I thought that we were losing our mind however the trip was not bad at all. We left a day before we were expected to arrive so we would have to tackle the whole 9 hour drive in a day. On Tuesday we got on the road at 4:30 so we would miss rush hour traffic in Charlotte.
The mid point from North Carolina to Florida is Savannah Georgia. It took us about 5.5 hours with all the bathroom breaks and what little traffic we did run into. We made it to our room around 11:30. The Courtyard by Marriott Savannah Midtown was hour home for 24 hours which was perfect for us. We stayed in a double queen bedroom with a pool view balcony. The kids crashed as soon as they changed into there and got them into the pjs. We are all early bird so we were up at the crack of dawn and Chris headed out to get breakfast. The Courtyard does have a nice lobby area as well as a Starbucks. I do believe that the breakfast option was limited because of COVID.
The kids and I met Chris is the lobby and had a mini breakfast feast. At this point the kids still had no idea where we were going. After breakfast we stepped outside to view the pool and get some fresh air. We made our way back upstairs got dressed and then we’re off to Orlando. Number one tip when traveling with younger kids make sure to find a midway point. Look for possible hotels and if you are sure you want to stay at a hotel for 24 hours be sure to make a reservation beforehand. Do you prefer to drive or fly during your vacations?
