When thinking of the Great Smoky Mountains I simply think of how beautiful the mountains were during the winter months. I didn’t know how much fun you could have during the summer. Pigeon Forge from Burlington took us about 4 hours so Wednesday we checked into our hotel at Black Fox Lodge.
Black Fox Lodgeis conveniently located near the many activities and food that Pigeon Forge has to offer. The breakfast was absolutely delicious. Children under the age of 5 were allowed free Continental breakfast. The kids had a blast at the on-site pool. The pool included a water slide and a kiddie area which is great since I have younger children.
We started off at the Fast Track. This wasn’t an attraction on our itinerary; we actually had a mixup. The kids couldn’t turn down a ride on the racetrack. After the Fast Track we made our way to Fun at the Track. There was so much fun in one area the kids didn’t know where to begin. They had all a huge arcade, mini golf, and many rides. It reminded me of such a huge carnival that took me back to when I was a child right in the bumper cars. After a long day out we stopped by Creme De la Créme. They serve freshly made rolled ice cream. We loved watching the ice cream being made in front of us.
Saturday we tackled four attractions. WonderWorks definitely made our minds wander. The activities they had were kid/ family friendly. So many interesting facts explaining how the world goes around. We experienced a mini earthquake, 75 mph winds, and the cold waters from the Titanic. Beyond The Lens took us way back in time. From the first video games, allowed my kids to see what a payphone looks like, and so many interactive games. There were so many photo props which was so much fun.
MagiQuest was Carter’s favorite; he was able to be a wizard for the day. The family I really enjoyed going through the mirror maze. Alcatraz East Crime Museum is a true crime lover’s dream come true. I am a huge true crime fan so this museum was very entertaining. They had many artifacts that went way back in time. Many artifacts from popular cases such as Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and the vehicle of OJ Simpson. There was a tribute to all the victims of 9/11. The kids were able to get into a police vehicle but I actually have working lights. If you’re a true crime lover I highly recommend you check out Alcatraz East Crime Museum.
On Sunday we headed out and started off my day with breakfast at Puckett’s. The food was absolutely delicious and we learned that everything was locally grown. We saved the best for last, which is The Island in Pigeon Forge . The Island has all the food, drinks, rides and small shops that you can think of. We took a ride on the Great Smoky Mountain Wheel and had a VIP car. Once we were done with the Wheel we stopped by a few shops and got popcorn, fresh made fudge, and cookies for the road.
We had a great weekend and I would highly recommend it whether you’re looking for a solo trip or a getaway with your family. Again thank you the Pigeon Forge Department of Tourism for such an amazing weekend.
