Traveling this summer will definitely look different. Flying with little ones can be very intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be difficult. When Christian was younger we would fly back to North Carolina all the time and it was pretty easy. The older they get it becomes a tad bit of a challenge. Back in September we flew with all three kids for the first time and these tips helped us survive the our flight.
1.DIAPER BAG
No matter where you are it’s so important to be prepared with a fully packed diaper bag. But when you’re on the flight many feet in the air you NEED a well packed diaper bag. To see what I packed in our bag be sure to check out “What I Packed in my Diaper Bag: 1st Flight Edition”
2.PICKING THE RIGHT FLIGHT
When is the best time to fly? It’s so important when booking a flight to pay attention to the duration of the flight and departure time. For us we made the decision to take early morning flights and split with a 1-2 hour overlay. When picking seats it’s great to sit together as a family.
3. ELECTRONICS
I know many families limit screen time but this is the time to let the little ones enjoy. Not only do you bring the tablets. You can not forget the FULLY charged portable chargers. We have Netflix but not all flight have complementary WiFi. The night before be sure to download their favorite movies/ episodes. For older kids headphone are a great option as well.
4. LOCATE CONNECTING GATE
Once the landing announcement comes on be sure to start packing so nothing is left behind. It is so important to locate you connecting gate before deboarding. Once you locate your gate try and locate the family restroom( they are a life saver). Strollers, luggage, and all the bodies can be a lot. Family rooms give that space that you need to get diapers changed a prepared for the next flight.
5. EARLY CHECK IN
Once arriving to your gate be sure to let the agent know that you and your family have arrived. This will help your family get VIP status when it’s time to board. Allowing time to break down your stroller and finding your seats without begin rushed.
Hope these tips were helpful and make your next flight less stressful.
